Mission Statement
The Central Fraser Valley Search and Rescue Society will deliver a professional quality search and rescue service to the community by developing and maintaining resources and skills to safely and successfully resolve incidents outlined in the risk assessment of the area.
History
The Central Fraser Valley Search and Rescue Society was formed in 1978 by a small group of people who had been members of other Search and Rescue groups in British Columbia, and had moved to the Central Fraser Valley. To find out more about the history of the Central Fraser Valley Search and Rescue Society, check out the History section under the About heading.
Fundraising
Search and Rescue Teams in the Lower Mainland DO NOT solicit for funds over the telephone. If you get a phone call asking for a donation, it is not from an active SAR Group in the Greater Vancouver Area (Pemberton to Hope). If you want to make a donation to the SAR Group in your local area, please contact them directly. Many are listed in our Links section, or you can contact the Provincial Emergency Program.
The Central Fraser Valley Search and Rescue Society is a registered non-profit charitable society comprised of approximately 35 dedicated unpaid professionals. Our team has been offering specialized public service to the residents and visitors of the City an Township of Langley, City of Abbotsford, and Electoral District "H" (Sumas Mountain) since 1978.
In order to provide our quality services the team trains on a regular basis to maintain a high level of professional emergency service to the community. A considerable amount of time is also spent attending community events, and providing the Hug A Tree and Survive program to school age children throughout our service area, all free of charge.
Although our team receives funding from our served municipalities, which covers our basic operating expenses (telephones, pagers, insurance, fuel, and building rental, to name a few), our annual expenses far exceed this budgeting assistance. We rely upon generous citizens and organizations for monetary donations to fill those important gaps.
New equipment purchases, replacement of worn out equipment, and specialized training costs rely solely on the success of fundraising endeavors, donations we receive during public events and through funds donated by community services and generous citizens.
